What is Boba/Bubble Tea?
Bubble tea is a tea-based drink invented in tea shops in Taichung, Taiwan, in the 1980s.
Recipes typically feature a tea base mixed with milk or fruit. There are also slush-style versions blended with ice along with syrup or fruit. Bubble tea is most often served cold.
Most bubble teas come with small chewy tapioca balls (粉圓, fěnyuán), commonly called pearls (珍珠, zhēnzhū) or boba (波霸, bōbà).
The most popular types of bubble tea are tapioca milk bubble tea and tapioca green milk bubble tea.
